The search for a fun and family friendly replacement for the Buick has been pretty frustrating. Last week I decided to give my friend, a retired auto shop teacher, a call. I realized that it had been at least a year since I’d bugged him to sell me his original owner ‘94 Roadmaster wagon. I’ve been bugging him to sell it to me since I met him a decade ago. I almost pulled it away from him a couple years ago, but then I bought another car. Then he sold another car and resumed daily driving it.
Much to my surprise, this time he said yes because, “It’s been doing more sitting than driving, and nothing kills a car like that.” We set a time for him to bring it over to my place to take a look at it (these retired guys are always looking for something to do), which is this evening. I figured I’d believe it when I saw it, so I’ve been trying not to get too excited. I called him a couple hours ago to confirm, and he said, “Yeah, I’m throwing an alternator on it, because I don’t like the way the bearings sound. Is after 6:30 OK?”
Heck yeah it’s OK! He asked if we could do it another day in case he doesn’t get the alternator finished. I told him I could do any day this week, but I hope I don’t have to wait much longer.
The car is certainly not mint (it’s not the one pictured, but it is gold with wood paneling), and there is, “A lot of stuff that works, and a lot of stuff that doesn’t work.” We haven’t settled on a price yet, but it’s going to be pretty cheap.
I’m still trying not to get too excited until the deal is done ... but I’m excited!

Not only do you get the car, you get someone who’s knowledgeable about its maintenance. He’d probably help you work on it in exchange for a few beers.

Sweet. Hope it works out for you.

Talk about “something different”!
That’s the other end of the spectrum compared to the X body.

Mmm...iron-head LT1. Great car, great engine. I forget if the Roadmaster all had posi traction or not...I know they all had the LT1, but you may need a tow package for posi. My brother had a 94 Caprice with the LT1 and a 2.56 open rear end. Still went really well.

Step 1: Immediately grab a flashlight and inspect the underside of the water pump and top of the optispark.
Step 2: Whatever else
:)
Good luck!

No doubt! But I’ve always wanted a B-body wagon.

Yeah, I’m not sure of the tow package/posi situation with the Roadmaster. Hopefully this one has the towing package, but I’m buying it either way :)

Oh man, I so want one, too! Future classic indeed. And even if the mileage or condition prevents it from being one, its still one awesome car to own! ‘94s have the LT1 too. You should totally think about supercharging it!

You really can't go too far wrong with it. Good luck!

The mileage is over 150k, not sure how much. I imagine it has some rust too, so I don’t see this one ever being a restored show car or anything. I’d like to do a T-56 swap, but I’ll probably just drive it and maintain it :)

Sweet. Simulated wood gives me actual wood.
